Dr. Engel's Answers

So you have more information about how I would work with you, here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

How long are sessions and how frequently do we meet?

Sessions vary in length between 45 & 60 minutes. I schedule only one client per hour to allow for flexibility. Ideally, I meet with new clients weekly so that we can get to know each other and create forward momentum. After you are doing better, we may meet less frequently.

The first session is a time for us to start to get to know each other and is meant to be collaborative.  I am interested in what led you to therapy as well as your life in general.  I will listen and also ask questions. We will work on setting goals.

I offer complimentary 15-minute telephone consultations with all potential new clients. During this time, you learn about me and I learn about your situation. I will also answer any questions you may have so we can determine if we are a good fit. Please click to schedule this.

Insurance covers my services. Please check with your insurance to learn about your benefits. With some I am in-network; with others I am out-of-network. I file claims for insurance reimbursement for all my clients regardless of whether I am in-network or out-of-network. Let’s talk about what this means for you. I work virtually so I see clients in many locations. I am fully licensed in Washington, DC and North Carolina where I previously had offices. Through PsyPact I am authorized to work virtually with clients in over 40 states. TeleHealth is very helpful if you live in one state and work in another, travel for business or move to a different state. I primarily work with clients in DC, MD, VA, NC and PA. Please ask me about your particular location.
