Meet Dr. Engel
Here’s what I believe…if you are working with a therapist, it’s important to get a sense of who they are, and what they are like personally and professionally. So, I thought I’d share a little bit about myself.
While I grew up in New England, I have lived and worked in various other locations including Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. I have also traveled on three continents all of which has given me a broad perspective on life. I’m fascinated by people’s journeys in life, both the internal and external voyage.
I am a licensed psychologist who went to Duke University for my undergraduate degree. I then earned my Masters and Doctorate in Clinical & Health Psychology from the University of Florida following a year of specialized training at the University of Virginia.
Before opening my Private Practice, which I love, I worked in a variety of settings including medical centers, outpatient psychology clinics, a biofeedback clinic and a student counseling center. I have enjoyed working in the field of mental health for over 20 years.
I am practical and a good listener who is invested in working collaboratively with my clients on their issues and goals. I help with cultivating a balanced, healthy lifestyle believing that honoring your mind, body, and spirit are an important part of healing.
I have first-hand experience in finding a positive perspective on tough days, exercising when I don’t want to, and eating healthy when I am stressed. I live and breathe blending good physical health practices with good mental health practices because I know they are inseparable. If you feel similarly, we may be a good fit.
For me, I relish being in nature, traveling, hiking, meditation and yoga. I also enjoy gardening, learning about new things, and being with friends and family. This all brings me joy and helps me to stay sane, healthy, and balanced so that I can be a better person and a better therapist.
